.. He had to earn this one! He got caught up in a lap 1 mishap and had to make repairs to start at the back of the field. He slowly was making his way forward as a battle upfront between Sammy and Stevie Smith ensued for the lead. About halfway through he had made his way up to 6th with no cautions! He kept using the bottom and kept making his way foward and finally took the lead with like 5 laps to go and cruised to the win! Total insanity that he drove the TSR #15 from last to first with NO cautions in 25 laps! I had complete goosebumps listening to the broadcast.. that was a driving exhibition and I'm jealous I didn't witness it in person!
Donny Schatz had this to say to the rest of the WoO field for 2009 following the race, "Hope you boys enjoy fighting for 2nd place in the standings for the 4th year in a row!" Well, he didn't actually say that, but I'll say it for him!
It was a hell of a race upfront going on even before Schatz came charging foward. Dewease ended up leading a little bit before Sammy went flying by him which was followed by S. Smith in the Zemco #1 going by him at about the halfway point. Big battles between Lasoski, Saldana, Darrah, and Dewease for top 5 positions going on as well... but that was just the subplot to the real show coming through the field!
