WoO Vegas 2/26

Actually woke up from a brief nap just in time to listen to the race last night and it actually had some excitement to it as well. Craig Dollansky jumped out to the lead in his DirecTV KKR #19 from his pole position and usually when he does that, you can write out the check to him, but that was not the case as legendary Sammy Swindell chased him down in the Rolfe Trucking #10 on lap 8. A caution a few laps later bunched the field together and it seemed like Sammy was gone until he got into lapped traffic.

Right after the restart, Donny Schatz blew by Dollansky to move into 2nd, but a distant 2nd at the time. Schatz waited for a long run and traffic to decide the race as he usually does and he blew by Swindell on lap 16 when he was caught up in the middle of the track from a lapper. The race was all but over at this point, but cautions late kept coming out for drivers who were blowing right rears or running out of fuel. Those having problems were Steve Kinser, Jac Haudenschild, Joey Saldana, Chad Kemenah, Tyler Walker and Tim Kaeding (coasted to the finish while in 5th).

All in all, it was a good race by WoO standards as there were 3 leaders and 2 lead changes throughout. But it was the 3 time champ coming out on top for the 3rd time in 4 races. The only thing that is going to keep him from winning the championship will be injury. I hate to say it but everybody else is running for 2nd and it looks like Schatz might actually get to 30 wins this year which is unfathomable. Points are updated in the sidebar to the right with the next race coming in 2 weeks at Chico for 2 nights of the Mini Gold Cup.
